“PILOT Killian, your thoughts?”

Killian leaned on her elbows, com between her hands, eyes riveted on the feed from the sat over Henry’s location. What she thought? Wouldn’t catch her with fucking skeleton people, let alone go with them into a fucking cave.

“I think he’s doing fine, Flip.”

Her next thought she kept to herself as well. That she’d give anything to be down there, right now, preferably with something more powerful than a stun field.

Would probably mess his play. Henry had his wits and words. Her lips twisted. Probably should worry about the people.

They let Henry go first. He disappeared, the others followed, and there was nothing to gain staring at what swallowed them.

The pilot turned and sank down, sitting on the dais. Listened. Heard footsteps. Henry’s breathing. Steady and even. Man who faced down a Kmet wasn’t going to panic in a tunnel. Heard him ask, crazy calm, “Will there be light soon?”

Closed her eyes, to share the dark.
